Effective Implementation of Assistive Technology

When it comes to Assistive Technology the process can be overwhelming and complicated. An effective AT plan includes 7 steps: gathering relevant information, establishing IEP goals, conducting AT trials, identifying AT solutions, developing an implementation plan, adapting lessons for AT integration, and following up and planning transition.

The following conditions will ensure a successful implementation of AT:
~The student is motivated to use the technology to reach goals.
~The team works together to implement the best device or support with appropriate goals and objectives.
~The administrators are working with the team and student.
~The building is accessible to the student.
~The technology is easily accessible to enhance the learning.

Here is a flowchart I found useful that will help guide teachers when it is time to implement assistive technology:

  2. Thank you Tom! I liked the flowchart as well. At first that is how I gained most of the information, it was so much easier to understand than all the wording in the paragraphs. I knew I had to add it to my post in hopes it would help more people understand the implementation process of AT.
