Although I have covered many great resources in my previous
posts most of the resources were related to reading and/or writing. My
following posts will be focused on the content area of mathematics. As a 7th
grade math teacher, I am very excited about the AT math resources because I
will be able to use these resources every day in my classroom to help MY
students who struggle in class. Assistive technology will help students that
struggle with organizing, copying, and computing problems involving numbers and
other math topics. AT allows visual and audio support to help students succeed
in the area of mathematics. There are a variety of graphic organizers,
calculators, manipulatives, and worksheets that can be adapted to meet the
needs of individual students to support their learning during math lessons. In
addition to those great resources there are different levels of AT support that
we can give our students ranging from no tech options (extra time, less
problems) to high tech options (software, devices). I cannot wait to explore
these AMAZING resources with you!

Visual Schedule Planner
After completing the webinar on “Assistive Technology Solutions for Reading” from Tools for
Life: Georgia’s Assistive Technology Act Program, I decided to blog about
the application Visual Schedule Planner.
Visual Schedule Planner is beneficial to students with developmental disabilities,
autism, and reading disabilities. This app allows users to complete a daily
schedule of the events in their day using words and pictures. The Visual Schedule Planner will read events
to the user or remind users of important daily tasks. It has a day, week, or
month view of events. The student can check off tasks as they complete the
tasks while using a timer to stay on task. This visual schedule will help students
who cannot read paragraphs filled with directions. This application is
available through Apple products for $14.99.
