Past event cards are used for students with autism
because they often cannot remember the details of their day. They have trouble recalling
the events in their day and relating it to the next activities. When teachers
and family members use a past event template with pictures the student is used
to seeing, the child can point or circle what tasks they completed in the day
and bring this information home and back to school. This helps to bridge the gap between home and
school communication. See below for an
example of a generic past event card. Feel free to share your own!
Christina, I really enjoyed reading your post about past event cards. I think that the pictures that you have added made it a lot easier to understand how they are used. I think these cards are a great tool to use with this population of students! I also agree that the use of past event cards is a great tool in bridging the gap between school and home!
ReplyDeleteThank you Andrea! As teachers we are constantly busy with planning, grading, and accommodating that sometimes we forget to communicate. Communication is key to a successful education for students. Parents and teachers must be on the same team with the same goal in mind, helping the students succeed. With past event cards we are given a great resource that is easy to use and create so students can communicate their daily activities and feelings with parents and teachers.
