AT Resource: Books on CD
Books on CD are assistive technology resources used in many schools over the years. Books on CD give the students audio for specific books they read in class or on their own. These resources benefit students who struggle with reading, have a reading disability, a physical disability, or are legally blind. Books on CD allow students and individuals to follow along on paper while hearing the words read aloud. One resource I found was BOOKSHARE, which is the largest nonprofit online library database of audible books. This resource is free to students in the United States. Students can download unlimited books, magazines, and articles. Also local libraries have an assortment of books on CD for library card holders to borrow. Most books have a CD available for purchase, or you can create your own audio CD using your own voice for students. In my classroom I have created my own audio CDs for students using books from our library. If I am not able to create the book on CD I would try the library or purchase it through a book company.
