AT Resource: Portable Word Processor

Portable word processors are lightweight devices used in place of laptops. Students can carry these devices around throughout the day to use them for writing. The text typed into the portable word processor can be sent directly to a printer or uploaded to a computer for editing. These devices will benefit students with ADHD or students who cannot hold a pen or pencil to write on paper. Some portable word processor devices are NEO (Alpha Smart), Dana (Alpha Smart), AlphaSmart 3000 (Alpha Smart), Quick Pad (Quick Pad Technology), the Writer Fusion (Advanced Keyboard Technologies), and Laser PC 6 (Perfect Solutions). I would consider using the Forte in my classroom because it is easy for the students to use. It is a basic word processor with a simple turn on button and saves files automatically. See example of the Forte below.
