AT Resource: Naturally Speaking Voice Recognition Software

Naturally Speaking Voice recognition software programs are used for students and individuals who want to produce text by speech. These AT resources allow individuals to talk into microphones and produce text from their speech. Students are able to concentrate on producing content rather than focusing on grammar and spelling errors. In addition to creating text, individuals can use the elements of the software to produce commands such as shutting down or logging off the computer. Some resources can be programmed with household appliances for speech commands. Naturally Speaking Voice recognition software benefits students with physical disabilities, brain injuries, speech disorders, and autism. Some software resources used in schools are Dragon Naturally Speaking, SpeakQ, Windows 7 and 8 built in speech recognition. The resource I would use with my 7th grade math students is the Dragon Naturally Speaking software. This software is inexpensive and user friendly. I would use this to help students answer their math questions when showing difficulty writing it on paper.
