AT Resource: Scan and Read Software
Scan and read software is explained in the name. This software resource is used to scan paper documents onto a computer so the documents can be read and edited by the user. This allows the user to scan documents rather than recreate a digital copy on the computer. In addition to working with word documents, users can scan books, journal articles, magazines, etc. Scan and read resources will benefit students with dyslexia, visual impairments, and learning disabilities in reading. Some of the software resources available are: ABBYY – ABBYY Fine Reader, Expervision – TypeReader, I.R.I.S. – ReadIRIS, Nuance – TextBridge, Prime Recognition – PrimeOCR. The product I would use in my classroom would be the IRIS Canon scanner. This is a small scanner that is user friendly with one button to push for scanning.
